Colussus of Rhodes

One of the ancients 7 wonders of the world is the “Colossus of Rhodes.” From its building to its destruction is almost about 56 years. The Colossus of Rhodes was not only a gigantic structure yet it is a symbol of unity of the people who inhabited that beautiful Mediterranean island, Rhodes.
They build the Colossus of Rhodes at the entrance of the Mediterranean island of Rhodes in Greece. It said that the Rhodes gain their unity to other country, to celebrate their unity they sell their military equipments and their gold’s to build a wonderful statue to offer to their Greek god, Helios, which is known to be the sun god. The construction took 12 years and said to be finish in 282 BC but unfortunately after the statue had been build they came a strong earthquake that cause tragedy to the Rhodes. The city was badly damage and said that the colossus was broken at its weakest point, its knee. It has been long believe that the Colossus of Rhodes stood in front of one of the harbor in one of the many cities in Rhodes. Besides, the fallen of the colossus would have blocked the entrance of the harbor. Although we don’t know the true appearance of the statue and although it disappear in its existence, because of the ancient world wonders or normally called 7 wonders of the world the Colossus of Rhodes become popular around the world and because of it, they inspired many and modern artist such as the French sculptor, Auguste Bartholdi. How to know the History of the Seven Wonders of the World

To know the history of the seven wonders of the world or how it was created you can visit it’s own site or even any site that focuses the history of seven wonders of the world.

Beforehand seven wonders of the world was originally called as seven wonders of the ancient world.

 The amazing works of art and architecture known as the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World serve as a testament to the ingenuity, imagination and sheer hard work of which human beings are capable. They are also, however, reminders of the human capacity for disagreement, destruction and, possibly, embellishment. As soon as ancient writers compiled a list of "seven wonders," it became fodder for debate over which achievements deserved inclusion. Ultimately, human hands joined with natural forces to destroy all but one of the wonders. Furthermore, it is possible that at least one of the wonders might not have existed at all. Still, all seven continue to inspire and be celebrated as the remarkable products of the creativity and skill of Earth’s early civilizations..a

Seven wonders of the ancient world consist of:

 Great Pyramid of Giza, Egypt

 Hanging Gardens of Babylon

 Temple of Artemis at Ephesus

 Statue of Zeus at Olympia

 Mausoleum at Halicarnassus

 Lighthouse of Alexandria

 Colossus of Rhodes

How to maintain the beauty of the Seven New Wonders of the world?

hy do we have to maintain these landmarks? What is the importance of these? What is the benefits of these? Seven Wonders of the World is a big help for the mankind through these years. These landmarks prove that our ancestors are talented. They built these landmarks with out using technology. It just show how talented they are. These landmarks also help with the studies that is held in order to know the history of our ancestor and also the history of places where it was found. We need to take good care of these because it’s a treasure given by our ancestors. We need to discipline ourselves to take care of these landmarks. It’s a valuable thing that our ancestors could give us. If these landmarks will still be preserve until the next generation, these generation will see the talent of their great ancestors. And another reason for these, is that it’s a part of the study for children. So its good if it seen not only in pictures.

Temple of Artemis

This is temple is also known as the "Temple of Diana" it was a greek temple dedicated & made for Artemis. Artemis was a greek goddess, the virginial huntress & twin of apollo. This temple is one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world but only foundations and sculptural fragments were found at the remains of the temple. What's more suprising is the temple was build during the bronze age looking on how old it is the temple was made with marble except for the roof. According to Pliny he described the temple as housed of many fine works. It's height is 377 ft(155 meters) long and 180 ft (55 meters) wide. The temple also have paintings and gilded columns of gold and silver making it attractive and elegant. It was said that during the early ages it draws merchants because it is located at an economically robust region. The temple of Artemis became a tourist attraction during the early ages merchants, kings and sightseers where there to see the beautiful site of the temple. Looking at the situation at the past this temple became an attraction to everyone because it is mostly visited by people. By just thinking about it you could imagine how beautiful this temple would be. But according to what I have research it was destroyed on July 21. Many resarchers were interested and try to find the site if the temple and after 60 years of searching they successfully rediscovered it in 1869 by an expedetion lead by a British Museum because of that, John Turtle the one who led the searching of the temple found fragments, sculpture of the rebuilding of the temple. Today this temple can be seen at a modern port 50km south of city of Izmir in Turkey and is marked by a single column that was discovered on site.

It make us wonder how great the people during the early ages. They make structures such as the Temple of Artemis that attracted thousands of merchants and worshippers from far off land.

Hanging Gardens of Babylon

Some stories indicate the Hanging Gardens towered hundreds of feet into the air, but archaeological explorations indicate a more modest, but still impressive, height.

The Hanging Gardens of Babylon, also known as the Hanging Gardens of Semiramis, near present-day Al Hillah, Babil in Iraq, are considered to be one of the original Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. They were built by the Chaldean king Nebuchadnezzar II around 600 BC. He is reported to have constructed the gardens to please his sick wife, Amytis of Media, who longed for the trees and fragrant plants of her homeland Persia. The gardens were destroyed by several earthquakes after the 2nd century BC.

The lush Hanging Gardens are extensively documented by Greek historians such as Strabo and Diodorus Siculus. Through the ages, the location may have been confused with gardens that existed at Nimrud, since tablets from there clearly show gardens. Writings on these tablets describe the possible use of something similar to an Archimedes screw as a process of raising the water to the required height.Nebuchadnezzar II also used massive slabs of stone, which was unheard of in Babylon, to prevent the water from eroding the ground.

"Babylon, too, lies in a plain; and the circuit of its wall is three hundred and eighty-five stadia. The thickness of its wall is thirty-two feet; the height thereof between the towers is fifty cubits; that of the towers is sixty cubits; the passage on top of the wall is such that four-horse chariots can easily pass one another; and it is on this account that this and the hanging garden are called one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The garden is quadrangular in shape, and each side is four plethra in length. It consists of arched vaults, which are situated, one after another, on checkered, cube-like foundations. The checkered foundations, which are hollowed out, are covered so deep with earth that they admit of the largest of trees, having been constructed of baked brick and asphalt - the foundations themselves and the vaults and the arches. The ascent to the uppermost terrace-roofs is made by a stairway; and alongside these stairs there were screws, through which the water was continually conducted up into the garden from the Euphrates by those appointed for this purpose. For the river, a stadium in width, flows through the middle of the city; and the garden is on the bank of the river.

Lighthouse of Alexandria

The lighthouse of Alexandria is an ancient structure, now collapsed, that was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The lighthouse, with a height between 115 and 150 m (380 and 490 ft), was located on the island of Pharos in Alexandria, Egypt, the country's largest port in antiquity. The lighthouse of Alexandria was constructed between 285 and 247 BC by Ptolemy I Soter, a general and possible half-brother of Great. When Alexander died prematurely, Ptolemy was one of his generals that grabbed a part of his former territory -- in his case, Egypt. The lighthouse of Alexandria was constructed shortly after Ptolemy declared himself king of Egypt. According to legend, Sostratus of Cnidus, the architect of the lighthouse, was forbidden by Ptolemy to put his name anywhere on it, as Ptolemy, being a newly minted king, wanted all the glory to himself. After the construction of the building, it seemed that Sostratus had obeyed Ptolemy, but centuries later, it was revealed that Sostratus did indeed sign the building, only he covered up his inscription with plaster. Only after centuries of age did the plaster fall off.

Not just a tower, the lighthouse of Alexandria was a thick building that tapered into a tower near the top. It was built in three sections, a tall rectangular main section with a circular tower section above it, topped by a columned apex with a continuously burning flame. The Egyptian coast, being very flat and devoid of features, needed a landmark to help with navigation, and that is the purpose that the lighthouse served for over a thousand years, until it finally collapsed in the 14th century after a series of earthquakes. Due to its height, many scholars believe the lighthouse of Alexandria was the third tallest building in the world, after the Great Pyramid of Giza, for its entire lifetime.

Pyramid of Giza

PYRAMID OF GIZA

Pyramid of Giza is found in Egypt. Out of the Three pyramids of egypt the Pyramid of Giza is the Oldest and Biggest. It is considered as the Tallest man made structure in the world for years. It is covered by Glacing stones. Some says that it was created by moving huge stones from a quarry and dragging and lifting them into place.. For me i think i take a thousand of years to finish that, According to the travelers, it has many chambers. The Queen Chamber, the King chamber and the unfinished chamber. SOme says that the unfished chambers is unfinished because king khufu have died already. That's why the slaves have stopped working in building these chambers. if you want to go to chamber, tourist says that Eqyptian guards are guarding these chambers. They say that at the bottom of the chamber lies the coffin of the Pharaoh Khufu and above his chamber lies his wife. Some says that visitors are not allowed to go to these chambers, that's why i dont know if khufu's coffin is really there. Based on the Egypt's history. King Khufu is one of the cruel and ruthless pharaoh in the history. The proof is the pyramid, because slaves are the one who maybe created it.. According to the Construction Theory Slave labour was used but modern Egyptologists accept that it was built by many tens of thousands of skilled workers. They camped near the pyramids and worked for a salary or as a form of paying taxes until the construction was completed. One of the mysteries is that how did they plan the construction. Because architecture is not being discovered yet at that time.

How to judge the Seven New Wonders of the world?

The criteria for judging to become a candidate in the 7 wonders of the world are base on its time span, structure quality, geographic dimension, and also artistic and cultural value. To know more about the criteria for judging let me specify each one of them.

The first one is its “Time Span.” The judges will cover its entire time span from the beginning the man make a mark here on earth and the time they built a wonderful structure. They will concentrate on how the monuments or buildings been build and what its history.

Next is “structure quality.” All monuments and building that they want to be a part in the 7 wonders of the world must be human built and in an acceptable state of preservation. Human built means that humans must be involve in fashioning or polishing the monuments and building. It must be also preserve that there must be no artificial structures, if the judges will see any structures that have been reconstructed to enhance its feature by doing artificial things, it will be automatically disqualified.

The 3rd one is “geographic dimension.” The monuments and buildings from all countries and continents in the whole world are all nominated for being a part in the 7 wonders of the world. But they can only select 21 candidates from 21 countries. These 21 countries were selected as finalist. Also there must be only 1candidate allowed per country.

Last but not the least is the “artistic and cultural value.” The monuments or buildings had to have artistic architectural value.Bernard Weber, founder of the 7 wonders of the world and his team plan to add to his criteria purely technological wonders, who’s one and only purpose is the use of technology. This will be included in the future projects of the new 7 wonders. The good thing about being a part or candidate in the 7 wonders of the world is that all nominated monuments or buildings are recognized worldwide.

HOW TO DESCRIBE THE SEVEN ANCIENT WONDERS OF THE WORLD?

Visiting these places is one of the dreams of each humans living in this world. Eventhough i don't have a chance to visit one of them,i still have an always chance to see them in pictures. It is true that that some of these wonders are destroyed by the earthquake and only one survive that is the Pyramid of Giza.Seven Ancient wonders of the world is obviously beautiful and nice because it is included in the wonders. i can only describe these wonders based on the pictures i hava seen. for me the best out of these 7 wonders is the Pyramid of Giza, it is the best because i think it will take a lot time to make it. It structure is unbelievable. It is tall and it has a good sightseeing. Many people visit Egypt just to see this plac, thats why Egypt is well knowned by the counties in the world. Egypt is ell knowed because of their Pyramids. Next is the statue of Zeus in Greece, this statue is created by the Greeks, it is made of gold. People who have seen this statue admired its gold and ivory figure. Zeus is one of the Gods of greeks the god of lightning, It's size is like an elephant, a human is very small compared to this statue. This statue is already gone because of fire after that people have stolen the gold for their own deeds. Next is the hanging gardens of Babylon, out of all the seven wonders i considered this as the most artistic one. Well made because of the beautiful plants hanging one each castle. It is said that nebuchandezzar made it for his wife. It is very beautiful, the plants are not decaying because of some machinery that made it grow. Next is the Lighthouse of Alexandria. It is the first world's most important lighthouse. It guide's ships into the citys harbor for many years. It is tall and it's mlight can reach mny kilometers. Next is the Collosuus of rhodes. It is the biggest statue that is made in history, It was constructed by the people in rhodes survived yearlong siege by a large force of Macedonians. it is made out of bronze. It was destroyed by a big earthquake. For me it looks a lot like the statue mof liberty. Next is the temple of artemist, it is one of the largest temple created by the greeks. It was famous for it's decorations and extensicve use of marbles. It was destroyed because of plundering. And the last one is The Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, a great marble tomb. It was build for Mausolus a local ruler. It is a big tombm like a church for me. IT was destroyed also by an earthquake.

There are many words that can describe this seven ancient wonders of the world. i hope that the next ancient wonder of the world will be good. I wish we can maintain it's beauty and avoid it's destruction like the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World. God created the world for us, we must cherish it and love it like we love him,
